Geocache Description:

This cache is located at what was a popular spring water collection point. As a result of the 2017/2108 water shortage, free water collection points became very popular with residents of Cape Town. The resulting congestion in the narrow roads surrounding Newlands Spring prompted city officials to close access to the spring by casting a concrete slab over it. The spring still discharges into the Liesbeek River albeit behind a fence. There is a new regulated collection point next to the Newlands public swimming pool.

Pure water is technically pH neutral with a pH value of 7. A value of less than 7 is said to be acidic. Apparently the more acidic water is, the more Hydrogen it contains and the more hydrating it is for us. The Newlands Spring has been measured as having a pH of about 5.9 which I guess makes it quite hydrating.

When you pop in to retrieve this cache bring along some bottles and fill them up - it is well worth it. Locals fill up large 20+ litre bottles at a time and even the fuzz have been seen stopping to fill up their bottles.
