This building has always intrigued me, so I thought it would be a
cool place for a cache. I love these old buildings, especially
those related to railroading.
I found this website, Railga.com that had some details on
the history of this building.
"At 560 Walton Way is the former Central of Georgia Railway
freight depot. Before the Central, it served the Port Royal &
Augusta Railway. The building was rehabilitated in 1983 for use as
a catering and banquet facility....in the late 1980s Walton Way was
raised above those tracks blocking views of the building's front
facade."
For more cool history on the Central of Georgia Railway, see
this web
page.
It does not appear the business here is using the Southern
Building, but rather the warehouse or old rail depot part of the
structure.
You are looking for a micro well integrated into its
environment. The business located here knows of the cache and has
granted permission.
A few notes:
--This area gets quite a bit of foot traffic, so use stealth!
--Do not hunt this cache at night
--Please put the cache back as you found it
--Bring a pen
--Good luck.
