A micro cache hidden in Town of Greenville Park. A flat walk down an old farm road.
The Town of Greenville Park is off of Rte 32 just north of the junction of Rte 32 and Rte 81. The George V. Vanderbilt Park located in the center of the Town of Greenville consists of 156 acres. It has 2½ miles of nature trail that includes a pond, part of the Basic Creek, meadows, hardwood and softwood forest and open fields. With its wide variety of habitats, it's a great spot to hike, cross country ski, bike and observe a diversity of wildflowers, trees, birds, deer and other wildlife.
The park also includes a soccer field, a little league field, a playground and a picnic area. A one-half mile stretch of the Basic Creek in the park is open to public fishing.
Three barns are located on the property, one dating from the 1840s. Currently they are closed to the public but plans are being developed to renovate these barns for community use.
The park land was purchased in 1992 with monies raised by the Greenville Citizen's Park Committee, the town park development fund and a grant from the Iroquois Gas Company. Development of the park facilities was accomplished with a grant from the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and hundreds of hours of volunteer labor.
