Geocache Description:

Workmans Wood is a beautiful beech wood and this cache is placed about a mile into it along a bridleway.

This cache is placed, with the kind permission of the National Trust, along a public bridleway that runs through Workmans Wood. This is a lovely peaceful beech wood of some significance according to the information board at the start of the walk.

The bridleway runs downhill, quite steeply to begin with, through the wood and eventually reaches Sheepscombe. The cache is placed approximately half way along the path, meaning that it could alternatively be approached from Sheepscombe. However, there is no parking near that end of the trail meaning that you have to walk from the village to the start of the bridleway. If energy and organisation allows though, it is well worth considering walking all the way through to Sheepscombe to a waiting car or lift.

The terrain is reasonably easy, but not suitable for a pushchair due to unevenness and steepness. The path also follows a stream, which on occasion crosses the path, meaning that it is almost always quite muddy. The cache is just short of a mile from the parking co-ordinates.

At the cache location you are in a valley surrounded by tress, which meant that our GPS was struggling a bit. The clues should make the cache easy enough to find, but please let us know if the co-ordinates need revising.

Suggested parking (room for one car, but take care not to obstruct the gate):

Then walk along the grass verge towards the Fostons Ash pub for about 150 metres, and then onto the bridleway that runs alongside the road until you get to the driveway of Fostons Ash House. The bridleway runs down the driveway and through the five bar gate at the bottom, before going down hill into the wood.
