Geocache Description:

A small cache just off route 90, near a memorial for those who went to Petra.

During the early 50's, several groups of young Israelis attempted to reach the ancient site of Petra, in Jordan, about 25km east of this cache location. Going to Petra (that required to cross the border illegally, and sneak past the Jordanian army patrols) was considered an act of bravery by many. Most of them did not make it, and were killed by the Jordanians. A memorial to those who went to Petra was erected near the cache site, and the sign that announces the memorial is the place to go off route 90.

The memorial is located a short car ride away from route 90, but the cache is NOT there. To get to the cache, follow the paved road up the hill, to a deserted military base. We noted absolutely no sign that restricts access to the base, but be cautious in case the situation changes. If you go all the way up, you'll enjoy a great view of the border area.

A small plastic container is waiting for you there, but please remember to bring a pen. Start at the parking waypoint, go up the stairs and right to the observation booth. The photo is taken from right under the cache...
