Ponytail Falls is not the tallest waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge, but it is well worth visiting. The hike is relatively easy, it is nowhere near as crowded as some of the other waterfalls along the Historic Highway, and you can walk behind it. Plus, bigleaf and vine maples make this a beautiful autumn destination, especially in late October and early November...
The hike is approximately 0.8 mile one-way with an elevation gain of 360 feet. It's not enormously strenuous, but it should get your heart pumping a bit. The last few yards to the actual cache location are off-trail next to the splash pool. Be very careful as you navigate the wet slippery rocks. (Based upon that section, I have rated this terrain 3.)
You are looking for a well-hidden small lock-and-lock container. There is room for VERY SMALL trading items and trackables.
Satellite coverage in this canyon is HORRIBLE -- it took me several visits to find the previous cache -- so I STRONGLY encourage you to use the spoiler photo (the white arrow points the way).
Watch out for muggles!
Congratulations to aywolfpac4 for being FTF and making this their very first cache!
