Centralia Timberland Library is a Carnegie library built in 1913. Andrew Carnegie, known as the Patron Saint of Libraries, was a Scottish-American businessman and philanthropist who believed in self improvement through learning. Carnegie donated money for more than 2,500 libraries to be built between 1883 and 1929 with 1689 being built in the United States.
Originally 6200 square feet, the Centralia Carnegie library was built in 1913 but, like many Carnegie libraries, was remodeled in 1977-78 to accommodate a larger collection and more services. Fortunately, the remodel left many of the features of the original library intact.
