Geocache Description:

Welcome to Mumsy's Garden on Issaquah! You are welcome to visit, take photographs, but please walk only on our community's shared pier/dock. .


The cache is a red painted garden pail (interior waterproof container 5x5x8 inches) placed in celebration of the gardens of Issaquah Dock and additionally inspired by "Green Thumb" (GCEC8) in the Fort Mason Gardens of San Francisco.

Public shore access, but parking is limited..

Dock Rules: The Private Dock Sign doesn't mean you cannot visit, but some behaviors are not acceptable!
- We have many residents who are elderly and/or have disabilities. Some of them don't obey all the dock rules, but as a visitor please be kind. - DAYLIGHT SEARCHES ONLY!!! Neighbors have been startled by flashlights. NO MORE 24/7.
- NO bike riding, skateboards, scooters, or skatingon the dock.
- Dogs MUST be leash and owners MUST clean up after them.
- Please do NOT walk on private gangways, pick flowers or fruit, or leave litter.
- Someone's been stealing plants and decorative objects. My neighbors are touchy and very, very wary.

Issaquah Dock is an international tourist destination, so this cache is an appropriate travel bug hotel for those with travel destinations afar.

Muggles live and work on the dock, and a variety of other eyes will be overlooking your search, but the resident gardener is friendly. Tourists often sit on the benches and take photos while enjoying the gardens and quirky decorations, so play “tourist” while you log your find and then take some time to walk all the way to the end of the dock - it's worth it! If anyone gives you trouble at the cache, show them them the sign that reads: "I have the permission of the captain to check inside this container!"

Parking: As you enter Gate 6 Road you will see a Waldo Point Harbor sign. You can parallel park on the left side of the road. Please notice that the surrounding lots are for "Private Parking" and marked “Tow Away," so park in these areas at your own risk. That said, short term guests are not usually bothered by the management. - High tides often flood the entrance to Issaquah Dock. The Park has Public Parking so turn right at the first driveway toward the Van Damme sign after you enter Gate 6 Road.

About the Sausalito Floating Homes Community:

There are more than 400 floating homes (houseboats) in Sausalito. Most are found at the north end of Sausalito in Waldo Point Harbor, Kappas Marina and Yellow Ferry Marina. Commodore Harbor is about a mile further north. In Sausalito, there are about 30 more scattered throughout various sailboat marinas.

Some of the floating homes are late 19th/early 20th century wood-hulled “Arks”, most of which are now set on pilings in Waldo Point Harbor and Sausalito proper. These were holiday homes of San Franciscans who summered on the water in Richardson Bay. They were stored for winter in the Tiburon Lagoon.

Later, tugs, work boats and a variety of WWII ships were modified into floating homes. These still look like boats, but due to deterioration, their hulls now rest in concrete barges. The Yellow Ferry (aka "City of Seattle") and the "Vallejo" at Varda Landing were actually functioning ferries that are now used as homes. The wheel and smokestack of the "Charles Van Damme" is in the Gates Coop at Gate 6 Road.

Most of the colorful, creative and whimsical houseboats were built by using reclaimed materials from all over the bay area at very little or no cost. These were built on wooden and metal hulls purchased from Donlon Arques during the '60's and 70's. Most of those have since been transferred to concrete hulls.

Floating homes built since the late 70s are generally built directly onto concrete hulls. They are usually more conservative in size and shape.
