A delightful bay at high tide, however this may hinder you
reaching the cache.
Wander past the coast guard building and onto the rocks, at low
tide, flat easy walking. Out in the bay you may see Trust Rescue
moored, the Manakau harbours primary rescue craft. This vessel is
responsible for rescues over the whole of the Manakau harbour and
out to sea from Port Waikato to the Kaipara Harbour mouth,
including the infamous Manakau Bar.
Over the coming months (early 2010) a wharf is to be built here
to provide easier access to this vessel for the volunteer
coastguard, as well as giving launching boats a place to tie up
while their trailers are safely parked.
The cache is located up a short “locals access” track. Don’t
venture too far up or you will leave the coastal reserve and
venture onto private property. The cache is about 10m from the
beach and easily reachable from the track.
Please take care to cover well with leaf litter before
departing....Thanks.
