Wincanton is a small Somerset market town, well known for its race course and logistics company which sadly is no longer based in the town.
Park in the free public car park in Wincanton town centre (please check the parking sign for the length of time free parking is available, which differs for different sections of the car park). The above co-ordinates are for the first stage of a route which will take you through the town centre, then through some fields to the cache location and will enable you to make it into a circular walk taking approximately 30-45 minutes.
En route you will need to answer some questions in order to work out the final cache location.
Walk back to the High Street and at N 51° 03.409 W 002° 24.559 look for the tourist sign post. How many arms are there on the signpost? Subtract 1 from the number of arms. This number is A.
Continue down the High Street enjoying the architecture of the old Greyhound coaching inn, Town Hall and clock tower as you go. Stop at N 51° 03.367 W 002° 24.688. Look up at the Post Office and note the date on the building as 1BC6.
Take the racecourse road to N 51° 03.493 W 002° 24.793 passing the old school, court house and old police station as you go. On the corner of Hamilton Barn, below a satellite dish, is a blue sign. D is the number on the sign.
Follow the left hand of the two footpaths going up the hill, counting the steps to N 51° 03.549 W 002° 24.705. The number of steps is EE.
For the cache location work out:
F= A-E
G= C-B
The cache is at N 51° 03.FGF W 002° 24.FED, giving you good views of the race course and town as you walk towards it.
Either retrace your steps or continue on the footpath to the right into the next field and make your way back to the car park at N 51° 03.467 W 002° 24.545.
