This series is in honour of the industry which brought life to the town of Corby. There aren’t many Caches around or in Corby and so I have decided to place a series, keep an eye out for more of the series in the future.
Corby’s Steel works brought people from far and wide to work here, my own parents were from Durham and Scotland arriving as children when my Grandparents moved here for work.
This is the seventh of the series – Steelmen. This area is home to ‘The Corby Steelmen’ statue which was made and erected in memory of all the workers who have been killed at work. It depicts a Steelman standing proud and was the symbol of Corby FC up until 2008, the team are commonly known as ‘The Steelmen’. The area near the Statue is currently undergoing construction, since the initial placing of this cache the steelman has been moved to the front of the cube however the cache is probably better where it is so please take time to have a wander round and take a look at him.
The cache site is very near to Corby’s new Swimming Pool and it is well worth a visit when in the area, it has a cafe, or there are now several other cafes nearby.
This could be a quick Cache and Dash, if you time it right, or Stop and Shop, at one of the many shops now inhabiting our growing town centre. The newer part known as Willow Place looks stunning in December/January with the Christmas lights up (there aren’t many places in Corby you can say that about!). Needless to say this is a Nano cache.
There are several car parks nearby, all are reasonable for a short stay (around 50p), the nearest would be right next to the cache accessed by Wescott Way but costs minimum 50p, alternatively there is a car park on Alexandra Rd at Blockbusters which is free for the first 15 minutes.
This is a high Muggle area hence the high difficulty rating.
