Fallen Giant Traditional Cache

Fish Eagle: We checked on the cache today, and the hide has become a big ant's nest. The original focal point of the cache, the fallen giant, is gone, and now the access road has been closed so cachers need to walk there. We decided to rather archive this cache.

Geocache Description:

There are two things we want to show you here.....

Firstly, the fallen giant.
Always sad to see trees this size taken down with a chainsaw.
Makes one wonder whether it was really necessary...?

And secondly, an example of why wise folks build their houses on rock.

Rehabilitation of the erosion will be happening shortly. Please take a pic and upload it if you can. It would be interesting to see the progress, and how they go about avoiding the same happening again.



We thought that this stuff could only be seen on TV - "Destroyed in Seconds".......

Update 7th July 2011 : The rehabilitation work has been completed, but it looks suspect, and we can see a new problem developing here when the first rains arrive. There is no sign of the "fallen giant" which was the original focal point of the cache - sad, it was a very impressive tree stump. The cache has been re-hidden close to the rehab - please see the updated hint.
