Geocache Description:

This is another cache in my "WWII RAF Camps" series. This series is intended to show just how many old RAF Camps there are in Leicestershire, and you would be surprised.
Each of the cache's will be placed as close as possible to each end of the main runway. Some of the airfields have different lives now but all were used during WWII with different roles for each base.

I can find very little infomation about "RAF Market Harborough" other than a few scatered details.

Opened - 1943
No 92 Group (1944)
Main units: -
No 1683 (Bomber) Defence Training Flt (3 Feb - 1 Aug 1944)
No 26 Air Crew Holding Unit (21 Aug 1945 - 18 Sep 1946)
No 113 Storage Sub-site, No 273 Maintenance Unit (Feb 1946 - 5 Oct 1949)
Closed - 1947

There are some accounts of verious activites that took place here, most relating to pilot / crew training. A little bird tells me that nearby Lubenham was the host to some quarters for personnel based there.

The cache is a 0.5 sandwich container with some of the usual swaps in it and the log book.
There is parking near to the cache but be advised there are some bit of old metal lying around near the cache. A level of stealth will be required as the area is quite exposed.
