Geocache Description:

Memorial Park is a four-square block area in the eastern part of Frederick, OK. Over the years, it has been the site of many a celebration, from birthday parties and family reunions, to summer concerts and sporting events.

The Memorial Civic Center, originally built in 1949 as a community chapel, became a central location for holiday celebrations such as municipal and civic Christmas parties. The park grounds have teemed with children hunting Easter eggs and the Frederick Jaycees once used the site for Independence Day carnivals and fireworks displays. In 2009, the local Boy Scout troop planted a grove of trees in the northeastern corner as a memorial to the county's military veterans -- a site that hopefully will attract local citizens on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Geocachers should make it a point to visit the grove during their visit. This was my first geocache, placed here a long, long time ago. Starting out as a plastic lock-n-lock, it morphed into a camouflaged cylindrical container holding a variety of contents that reflected a variety of holidays that are celebrated in this park throughout the year. Outstanding city grounds crews did great work at keeping the park pretty ... which meant a lot of pruning. The cache has been replaced several times and moved (by necessity) to different locations. At this time, it's a silver bison tube holding nothing but a log. The park is a popular area for walking, so watch out for Muggles, especially in the evenings.
