Chosen Ones: Welcome to Chosen Hill! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mzebonga: I've decided today that it's probably time to remove this cache entirely: it's had a good run but the area in which it was hidden has changed considerably since it was originally published 5 years ago.

A sad day, as it was the first cache that I hid! Thanks to everyone who found it and gave such enjoyable logs over the years.

Geocache Description:

A small cache hidden on the slope of Chosen Hill. Can get a bit muddy during wetter weather but should be a relatively straight-forward find even for those who are new to GeoCaching.

Chosen Hill was one of the earliest GeoCache sites in the region with a cache dating back to August 2002 and affords fantastic views over both Gloucester and Cheltenham. It's possible to spend a good few hours contentedly GeoCaching here and, hopefully, the "Chosen Ones" series of caches helps to extend the fun!

With this cache you’re looking for a small camouflaged Pharmadude Microcache that I found during a trip to British Columbia, Canada (not a lock-and-lock!). Please bring your own pen/pencil!

With a history dating back to the 12th Century, St Bartholomew’s Church stands as a focal point at the top of the hill and is always a useful reference point for cachers who are struggling with the hill’s maze of winding paths.

The hill can be relatively muggle free at most times, although it is particularly popular with dog walkers (even sporting a dog-related cache). If you do take your faithful hound with you, please remember the golden geocaching rule: cache in, poop out!

Even if you’re into Puzzle Caches, there is something for you to find nearby!

The waypoints provided offer two parking options:
  • Option #1 (Cheaters parking): Park at the top of the hill next to St Bart’s. This puts you nearer some of the caches but you will have to walk back up the hill. Probably better for families with young children or complete couch potatoes.
  • Option #2 (Suggested parking): This will give you the best situation for walking up the hill (and also mean that the journey is downhill once you’ve finished caching). Early risers can make a short walk to collect Bridge In The Gap and a breakfast from the Sainsbury’s Café and there’s always the option to grab a meal and a drink at the Wheatstone Pub (at the provided coordinates) when your long caching journey is over! Kudos to you if you take this option: be sure to brag loudly in your log!

WARNING
The hill can get muddy at various times of year so you may want to plan your visit for warmer weather or a particularly frosty morning (although, even when frozen, the ground can be particularly uneven). The hill next to many of the paths can drop away steeply so please take care when you’re caching! If you do cache during wet periods; don’t wear clothes that were put on clean that morning – it get’s very slippery and I wouldn’t want you to have to launder them again so soon!
