Gilpin Airport
aka. Freeway Airport
Gilpin/Freeway Airport is the first civil aviation airfield in this series. Here are a few bare facts about the airport. This information is from www.members.tripod.com/Airfields_freeman/index.htm ; check it out for more details on this and 100’s of other “Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields”.
Gilpin Airport was founded about 1940 by flight instructor Walter Douglas and operated till around 1958 when it was closed. The facility reopened between 1958 and 1960 as Freeway Airport and operated under that name till closed in 1978. For the aviation buffs there is much more information on the web site. The airport's control tower and terminal building are located at 3749 North Romero Road.
The cache is a small container, log book, pencil and with room for small trade items. Hopefully a little off the beaten path, but watch for muggles. Should be an easy grab and go. Cache is NOT at the above address. HAPPY CACHING!!!!!!
Log only cache, bring your own writing stick.
Congratulations to philbeer FTF! ! ! ! !
