Geocache Description:

A neighborhood cache requiring a short hike, suitable for kids and pets. Located at 1700 ft. elevation near the Altadena Crest trail.

This memorial cache honors Chip the geo-dog. Chip accompanied us on our very first geocaching adventures and he was a wonderful friend. Although Chip was no athlete, he loved his daily walk around this Altadena neighborhood and was greeted by most of the two-legged and four-legged residents when he made the rounds. The site of this cache is one of Chip's favored rest stops along the way.

This little park was made for Earth Day 2008 from a formerly barren plot along the Altadena Crest Trail, next to Las Flores Canyon debris basin. The trees and native plants are starting to fill out and make it a nice little retreat. It can be reached by a short hike from parking on the south, north or east. The cache container is a camoed large tin with space for trade items, and has been stocked with some doggy-related items in Chip's honor. Please enjoy his resting place, and if you've got a furry friend at home, bring him or her along! Then keep going to visit the upper canyon, the Cobb Estate or Echo Mountain and all the caches along the way.

When hunting for the cache, remember to look before putting your hands where critters might live! And please carefully re-hide it as you found it to ensure that it remains safe and secret.
