How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Saturday March 13th 9:00 am - 12 noon at Independent Bible Church (IBC) just 2 miles west of I-81 in Martinsburg. Come meet some of your fellow cachers and participate in sessions led by some of our area's most experienced cachers. This is a great opportunity to bring some of your friends and neighbors who may have an interest in getting started.

Two caches currently exist at IBC, "Come as you Are" and "Ebenzer", and a third new cache will be posted on the church property the day of the event.

Doors open at 8:30. Independent Bible Church will provide free coffee, donuts, and juice. There will be no childcare provided, but children are welcome to attend sessions with you.

There will be a panel discussion with our seminar speakers: Snurt, LPYankeefan, and Manitto. These 3 speakers have found a combined total of over 13,000 geocaches. This will be your opportunity to ask them any questions you have about this hobby.

We will have two short breakout sessions. You can decide which topic interests you the most.

First Breakout session
1. Geocaching 101 - How to get started - Snurt
2. GPS Query and Geocaching Software - Manitto

Second Breakout session
1. Tricks on how to find and place a Cache - LPYankeefan
2. Mount Whitney Adventures (the highest cache in the 48 states) - Snurt
3. Find a Geocache - We will find a Geocache on the church property for new cachers - WVTim and WVGrammy

We will have topics for both the new and experienced cachers.

Please bring those friends and neighbors wanting to know what caching is all about. We hope to have some visitors who want to understand the hobby we all enjoy. Be sure to let us know if you're coming and how many you'll be bringing so we'll know how many donuts to buy.

A display of geocoins will be on hand, so bring your TB's and geocoins to show off or pass on. We will have a geocoin table where geocoins and TB's can be checked in and out safely.

Examples of geocaching paraphernalia, including GPS's, geocaches, geopacks and more will be available for the new cacher to examine.
