Cette chapelle est bâtie sur un tumulus romain, route d’Anan, en bordure de l’ancienne voie romaine.
L’oratoire romain aurait succédé, à cet endroit, à un temple païen dédié à Hercule. (Voir "Entre provisoire et définitif, profane et sacré" GC22RYM (visit link)
Saint Roch, patron du sanctuaire, a été invoqué lors des épidémies de peste de 1629 et 1790. Saint Roch protège le bétail et conserve les fruits de la terre.
La chapelle détruite à la Révolution a été reconstruite en 1810.
L’intérieur de la chapelle a été récemment décoré par un artiste local. Il a représenté la route de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle.

This chapel was built on a Roman mound, route d’ Anan, along the old Roman road.
There, the Roman Oratory supposedly succeeded to a pagan temple dedicated to Hercules. (See "Entre provisoire et définitif, profane et sacré" GC22RYM (visit link)
Saint Roch, patron of the sanctuary, was invoked during the plague epidemics of 1629 and 1790. Saint Roch protects livestock and preserves the fruit of the earth.
The chapel was destroyed in the Revolution and rebuilt in 1810.
The interior of the chapel has been recently decorated by a local artist. He represented the road to St Jacques de Compostella.
