Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache has been placed on top of the eastern point above the mouth of the Mataura River at Fortrose.
The cache is a 400ml Systemia Type Container that has room for Log small swaps, TB's and GC as well as the Log Sheet and pen. Please replace the cache back in it's environment as it runs the risk of being muggled by the neighbours.
Access to this cache is via gravel road to an obvious ending point and then an undulating 5 minute walk to the hide. Alternatively, you can drive right to it in a 4WD, being mindful of the tracks that can be muddy and slippery when wet. Any doubts, walk in.
This spot offers up some amazing views, not only of Fortrose and it's Golf Course but of Toe Toes Bay, back towards the Waituna Wetlands, Tiwai Point, Bluff, Stewart Island and Ruapuke Island.
Bring you camera and feel free to post pictures.
A BIG NOTE: This whole area is on top of a cliff, 35 metres above Foveaux Strait and the edges are extremely dangerous. The cache is no where near the cliff edges but please be very vigilant of these, whether you are in a vehicle or on foot, and in particular, don't let children wander anywhere near them. In saying this, with due attention to this, this spot is as safe as any other.
Enjoy.
