Brandberg Mountain
is located in Damaraland, in the northwestern Namib Desert, near
the coast, and covers an area of approximately 650 km². With its
highest point, the Königstein(German for 'King's Stone'), standing
at 2573m above sea level and located on the flat Namib gravel
plains, on a clear day 'The Brandberg' can be seen from a great
distance. There are various routes to the summit, the easiest (also
steepest) being up the Ga'aseb river valley, but other routes
include the Hungurob and Tsisab river valleys. The nearest
settlement is Uis, roughly 30km from the
mountain.
During our trip our car was broken so
we had to rest here. With our satelitephone we quickly contacted
AscoCarHire. We have waited 4 hours
(which seems short for African standards). Meanwhile, a replacement
car was arranged and leaved from WInhdoek next morning at 7 hours.
All the time we stay here there were 4 cars along with tourists who
could not help us, but very kindly offered food and water. A very
friendly Namibian even offered to drive to Uis for help, just at
that moment the "drag car" arrived.
Behind a Suzuki we left very slow this
place where we enjoyed the view. We invented beautiful stones, as
literally anywhere in Namibia. The next day arrived at half past 1
a Nissan Patrol that helped us to explore
more of beautiful
Namibia to explore.
The cache is not far from the road under a pile of stones.. And you
also realize that in such an empty country like Namibia, you must
be well-prepared!
