Swansea Observatory Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Andalusite: This cache has been disabled for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs or logged into geocaching.com for some time I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Geocache Description:

An easy nano cache (bring a pen!), but don't let that put you off! The Swansea Observatory building is a must see for anyone with an interest in astronomy.

Warning: You may need a paper clip or tweezers to get the log out of it's container.

The Marina Towers Observatory houses the largest telescope in Wales (is a 20" Shafer-Maksutov catadioptic telescope) and was operated by the Swansea Astronomical Society who ran public events and observation sessions at the tower from 1993 to the end of 2009.

Sadly the observatory is now closed and will no longer be run by the Swansea Astronomical Society due to the council increasing the fees for the building.

This is a wonderful building and although it's currently closed to the public it is still a fantastic place to visit not just for the observatory but for the brilliant views and it's simply a nice place to go for a walk.

There is plenty of parking near by and places to eat and drink (wander over to the marina north of the cache) plus if the observatory isn't enough astronomy fun for you then carrying on walking west and you will find an impressive sundial which is definitely worth a look in my opinion.

Warning: You will need a paper clip or tweezers to get the log out of it's container.
