Old Lodge Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

ScouterHerb & MrsB: Visited today & found cache without lid where previous Cachers had hidden it. 4 ft above that was the lid hanging in the tree where it was suposed to be. However all but one lock-N-lock tab were broken off. Because we now live to far away to maintain it, we have decided to archive.

Geocache Description:

The cache is a camouflaged 600 ml round Lock-N-Lock with a Winter friendly placement. Please rehide as you found it and report any damage. Summer Parking is available at the "Beaver Lodge" Trail Head and Winter Parking before the Elbow Falls Winter Gate. Take the Beaver Lodge Trail to the bottom of the hill and then follow trails to left through the Picnic Area.

Beaver create large ponds by damming streams. They then build their Lodge (Home) in the middle or deeper part of the pond. After a few years they will have cleaned out all the deciduous Trees, which they use for food and building, around the pond and it then becomes time for them to move on to a better source, and then build another Dam.

After they leave, their Dam gradually breaks down and all that is left is a cleared area, with a stream running through it and the remains of their Old Lodge. Such a Lodge, and cleared area, is found, and is visible about 30 meters ENE of the cache.

The Cache contains a few trade items and FTF PIN and unactivated-activated Travel Bug Dog Tag for the FTF Cacher.
