Ciao collega Geocacher,

dopo oltre due mesi dalla mia ultima nota, non ho ricevuto alcuna risposta.

Per questa ragione sono costretto ad archiviare questo cache. Se non lo hai ancora fatto, per favore raccogli ogni resto del cache al più presto possibile.
Se avete intenzione di intervenire sul cache, una volta completata l'operazione per favore lasciatemi un messaggio con il numero waypoint GC relativo al cache. Sarò più che lieto di verificare nuovamente il cache per verificare la sua conformità con le linee guida.

after more than two months from my last note I have not receive any answer and no action has been taken on the cache. For this reason, I am archiving it. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.
If you are going to fix the problems connected to this cache, once it is ready please drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache. I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

La Fontana di Lungotevere Testaccio, fu costruita nel 1869 sotto il pontificato di papa Pio IX Mastai (1846 - 1878) ed è dedicata allo studioso archeologo Pietro Ercole Visconti, noto per aver portato alla luce durante i numerosi scavi, una elevata quantità di reperti in marmo utilizzati per ornare gli edifici della città.
La fontana è composta di una quinta scenografica in laterizio incorniciata da lesene e volute in travertino e ornata da festoni che sorreggono lo stemma pontificio. La vasca della fontana non è altro che un sarcofago marmoreo dell'età imperiale del III sec.

Durante la notte tra il 31 dicembre 1999 e il 1 gennaio 2000, la fontana è stata vittima di atti vandalici, probabilmente causati più da un tentativo di furto che da un vera e propria bravata.
E' stata restituita al pubblico dopo un intenso e preciso lavoro di riassemblaggio dei frammenti del sarcofago che costituisce la vasca della fontana; si è poi proceduto all’esecuzione di stuccature delle lacune interne e alla impermeabilizzazione della vasca.

Oggi grazie al lavoro di professionisti del campo, la fontana è tornata al suo splendore originale e tutti possono ammirarla passeggiando sulla sponda del Tevere che porta al Mattatoio!

Lungotevere Testaccio Fountain was built in 1869 under the pontificate of Pope Pius IX Mastai (1846 - 1878) and is dedicated to the archaeologist Pietro Ercole Visconti, known for having brought to light during many excavations, a large quantity of marble used to decorate the buildings of the city.
The fountain consists of a scenic brick backdrop framed by pilasters and scrolls decorated with festoons and travertine that support the papal coat of arms. The basin of the fountain is just a marble sarcophagus of the third century of the imperial age.

Some time ago the fountain was victim of a vandalism, most probably caused by an attempted theft.
It was returned to the public after an intense and precise work of reassembling the fragments of the sarcophagus and the execution of grouting and sealing of gaps inside the tank interior.

Today the fountain is returned to its original beauty and everyone can admire it while walking on the banks of the Tiber that leads to the old slaughter house!
