Live Oak & Magnolia Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

WoodBadgeMan: This cache has seen some big changes to this site and has had a lot of visitors.
In the beginning, it was placed deep in the woods and it was a bit of a challenge, but since the site has been developed by the City of Daphne for a future sports complex, the cache has become a park and grab, so I am archiving "Live Oak & Magnolia."

Best regards,
Woodbadgeman

Geocache Description:

Located near prominant Live Oak and Magnolia trees.
When the cache was originally placed, this was the "Pole Pine" nature trail.

April 27, 2013 Update: The City has completed the road and parking areas for an upcoming public sports complex. This essentially transformed this geocache into a park and grab!

Original listing:
Located on 117 acres of park land owned by the City of Daphne, Alabama. This park is truly a diamond in the rough!

This one-half mile nature trail loop was established as a Boy Scout Eagle project by Eric Byrne, Boy Scout Troop 47, Fairhope, Alabama, in the fall of 2009. Eric has named this nature trail "Pole Pine" park.

Eventually, the City of Daphne intends to build a sports complex on this property and to extend the nature trail.

It is best to approach this geo-cache from Park Drive. The geo-cache is approximately one quarter mile from the road, along the nature trail.

The initial cache includes a log book (BYOP) and a Travel Bug: a John Deere tractor toy, included to highlight the construction of the nature trail.

14 Jan 10: Congratulations kaceynkent ... FTF!

19 Jan 10: Changed original temporary container to a more weatherproof Sterilite® watertight plastic container, 3.5 cups (0.8 liters) in volume, approximately 7” x 5” x3” in size.

18 May 10: Increased the difficulty to 2 because the city has not maintained (mowed) the trail. It would be advisable to wear long sleeved shirt and pants with boots.

22 Sep 12: The property around this geocache has recently been cleared of trees for an upcoming city construction project.

28 Oct 12: Construction on site has begun. I suggest staying off site if workers are present. The weekend would probably be best to visit this cache.

Since then: Construction on the roads and parking lots has been completed.
