Geocache Description:

What's here?

Below your feet is a 10 inch pipeline carrying the hydrocarbon - Ethane.
No digging it up, the cache is not inside!

Where did it come from, and where does it go?

Crude oil comes from the Bass Strait Oilfields and is piped ashore to Longford in Gippsland (near Sale).
The Ethane and LPG are removed and piped to Long Island Point (Western Port Bay) for fractionation into Propane, Butane, and Ethane. Most of the Propane and Butane is exported, and the Ethane is piped overland to Mordialloc, and then by submarine pipes under Port Phillip bay to here. It then travels overland to the Petrochemical Refineries in Altona

How long has it been there?

The pipeline was completed in 1972, amidst large protests.
It recently made the news when a large ship ripped the pipeline with its anchor.

The cache

The cache can be accessed by using the bike track, then a small car track from S 37 51.682 E144 51380.
There is no need to trample the wetland plants.
If your feet are wet, it is either pissing down rain, or you have gone too far!

Enjoy the view
