Rossbacher Häubchen

Deutsch:

Roßbach ist am Rande des Westerwaldes im Mittleren Wiedtal gelegen. Der Ort befindet sich unweit
der Grenze zu Nordrhein-Westfalen. In der Nähe liegende Großstädte sind Koblenz, Bonn und Köln.

Oberhalb von Roßbach/Wied erhebt sich das 296 m hohe Roßbacher Häubchen, ein ehemaliger Basalttagebau. Der Gipfel ragt als grauer Basaltkegel aus den ansonsten bewaldeten Höhen heraus und bildet ein Wahrzeichen von Rossbach. Vor Breitscheid führt ein einspuriger Weg auf ein Plateau unmittelbar unterhalb des Gipfels.
Vom Plateau und erst recht vom Gipfel hat man einen guten Blick hinunter in das Wiedtal und auf Rossbach.

Basalt ist ein basisches Ergussgestein. Es besteht vor allem aus einer Mischung von Eisen- und Magnesium-Silikaten mit Olivin und Pyroxen sowie calciumreichem Feldspat (Plagiokas). Basalt ist das vulkanische Äquivalent zum Gabbro (Plutonit), der die gleiche chemische Zusammensetzung hat.
Basalt entsteht, wenn dünnflüssiges, kieselsäurearmes Magma an der Erdoberfläche austritt und relativ schnell zu Basaltlava erkaltet.
Basalt ist, betrachtet man sowohl die Festländer als auch den Grund der Meere, das Gestein mit der größten Verbreitung. Nahezu alle tiefen Ozeanböden bestehen aus Basalt, der dort nur von einer mehr oder minder mächtigen Decke jüngerer Sedimente bedeckt wird. Entlang den weltumspannenden mittelozeanischen Rücken steigt die Lava empor und erzeugt durch die erkaltende Gesteinsschmelze neuen Ozeanboden zwischen auseinanderweichenden tektonischen Platten.

Rossbach is located to the fringe of the Westwerwald in the Middle-Wiedtal. The place is close to the border of Nordrhein-Westfalen. The big cities Cologne, Koblenz and Bonn are not far frome here.

Beyond Roßbach/Wied raises the 296m high Roßbacher Häubchen, a former Basalt-Opencast Mining. The peak juts as grey Basalt-Cone out of the green woodland in the near and shapes the landmark of Rossbach. Ahead to Breitscheid you can follow a single-lane road up to a plateau immediately under the peak.
You can get a great view to the Wiedtal and Rossbach from the plateau and of course from the peak.

Basalt is a basic vulcanic rock. Basalt especially consists of an compounding of iron and magnesium silicates with olivin and pyroxgen as well as calcium-rich feldspar (plagiokas).
Balsalt is the volcanic equivalent to gabbro (plutonit), with the same chemical composition.
Basalt accrues if fluid, poor silicic acid magma gets fast to the earth´s surface while cooling down.
If you look at Basalt on the mainland and the seabed it´s the most spreaded rock. Even all ocean floors consist of basalt, who is only covered by an younger sediment bout. Along the worldwide mid-ocean ridge the lava rises to the surface and gets new seabed among parted tectonic plates.
