Shotgun & Peashooter with Bowhunter & Beadmaker
The 4th Annual Fool-A-Palooza
Come join in a weekend of fun and friendship camping and geocaching
along the Crooked River below the Bowman Dam (Prineville
Reservoir). We will be camping in the Lower Palisades Campground on
the shore of the Crooked River. Event Central will be at camp space
#5. There are over 80 existing caches within a 10 miles radius of
the event and we have placed 37 new caches in the area as well.
There are limitless hiking possibilities of all skill levels in the
immediate area.
What: A Camp-Out Event for the purpose of getting to know or
renewing friendships with fellow cachers. If you do not want to
camp you can stay in a variety of motels in the town of Prineville
about 15 miles away.
When: This event cache will begin on Friday, April 9th and
continue through Sunday, April 11th. If you can't stay for the
whole three days, that's fine. In fact, if you can only attend for
a few hours, that's fine too. Just drop by and chat for
awhile.
Who: Anyone and everyone of all ages is welcome to attend,
whether you are a seasoned veteran cacher, a newbie cacher or just
someone who is interested in geocaching.
Where: The location is on the beautiful Crooked River just
below the Prineville Reservoir Dam. This is a BLM campground by the
name of Lower Palisades. We welcome cachers from anywhere, so no
matter where you live, you're invited.
Why: Because we can! We love to camp out and know that many
others do too! This weekend will be a great opportunity to cache
with fellow cachers who share your interest. You might pick up some
"tricks of the trade" with experienced cachers, or you might just
enjoy hiking the wonderful areas by yourself. Either way, you will
be surrounded by others who share your interest in geocaching and
love the opportunity to spend time in the outdoors.
Cost: Cost for camping will be $8.00 per night. This is the
regular campground fee and is paid at the campground at the time
you arrive.
Planned Activities:
Friday:
Official log and contest sign-up. The log will be available
all day, beginning at 9:00 AM. Tickets will be distributed (one per
team) at sign-up for the drawings. (You must be present to
win.)
Fireside chat. No camp-out would be complete without a camp
fire. We will have one centralized campfire for all attendees to
gather 'round in the evening. This will be a chance to relax, get
to know one another and swap stories about geocaching or
whatever.
Saturday:
Breakfast. Everyone is on their own for Breakfast and Lunch
meals throughout the weekend. Please come prepared as it is a 16
mile drive to any eating establishments.
Official log and contest sign-up. The log will be available
all day for any new arrivals starting at 9:00am. Tickets will be
distributed (one per team) at sign-up for the drawings. (You must
be present to win.)
Impromptu Cache Hunts. This is the day to team up with old
friends and new and go looking for some of the many caches hidden
in the area. This is also the last day to compete for the most
cache find logs, and also the first to complete the Fool-A-Palooza
cache challenge series.
Poker Run. We will have a Poker Run in which contestants
select cards at random from various locations. The team with the
best poker hand wins a prize. The Poker Run will begin at 9:00am
Saturday and the game will be after dinner and prior to the awards
ceremony.
Dinner. Dinner will begin at 5:00PM. This will be a "Pot
Luck" affair where everyone will bring a dish of some sort to share
with the entire group. Please bring enough so that everyone gets a
taste of your prize recipe! Everyone is to provide their own
serving utensils, condiments, plates, cups and plastic-ware etc.
Attendees will be responsible for providing their own drinks as
well. Adult beverages are not only allowed but encouraged, but
PLEASE do this responsibly, we do not want any staggering idiots
around making fools of themselves (besides Shotgun and
Bowhunter).
After Dinner: We will be awarding the prizes and awards at
the campfire directly after dinner. All prize winners must be
present to win. If you are not present, your prize / award will be
given to the next deserving participant.
Fireside Chat: As before, a chance to relax around the camp
fire and relive the days events and swap stories and build
friendships.
Sunday:
Clean Up: Please clean up your camp area and leave it in
better shape than it was when you arrived. We all want to give
geocachers a good name so do your best.
Throughout the Weekend:
Travel Bug / Coin Swap. Bring those trackables that have
been gathering dust on your desktop next to your computer and trade
them with other geocachers.

Special Kids Contest:
This one will be a special contest just for the kids. We will
announce this one to the kids and kids only when the time
comes!
You Never Know: If you have ever attended a Fool-A-Palooza,
you know to expect the unexpected. You just never know what is
going to happen. The hosts have truely twisted minds and the
contests will reflect that as you will see. Be prepared for
anything and everything, but especially for a lot of fun!!!
37 NEW CACHES PLACED ESPECIALLY FOR THIS EVENT:
All new cache descriptions will be available starting Friday at
9:00am.
The Fool-A-Palooza Challenge Series:
A series of 12 caches ranging from the cache and dash micro (yah
right) to the leg burners that will get your heart pounding. All 12
are fairly unique caches involving regular, puzzle, multi’s
and even a night cache. Whoever finishes this series will
definitely know the Crooked River Canyon on an intimate level!
First one to complete all 12 in this series before Saturday
evenings campfire will get a special prize.
The Buzzard Series:
A easy series of 10 caches leading to an 11th bonus cache. All
these caches are easily accessible and have a theme that you will
pick up on as soon as you get started. A fun series that everyone
will be able to do.
Bob’s Cave Series:
This is one of Shotgun’s favorite series. Bowhunter (Bob)
spotted a nearby cave from the road while we were in the area
placing the 12 Fool-A-Palooza series caches. He wanted to put a
cache in the cave in the worst way. Well time ran out for him, he
left me the ammo box, and I just had to place it for him. In the
process I figured what the heck, and made it a series of 3 caches.
This will be a good leg burner for most, but not as bad as some in
the 12 Fool-A-Palooza series. Another climb where the end justifies
the effort of getting there. Another special place in the
canyon.
The Crooked River Elevator Series:
Not what it sounds like. This is an easy walk up a real nice canyon
that leads from the river to the top of the west rim of the canyon.
There are 5 caches in this series, all are fairly easy to find, and
the route is absolutely the easiest way to get from the river to
the top of the west rim. Interesting area that all should like to
visit. The worst part is getting to the start, either from the
bottom or the top. Walk to the top, or cross the river to get to
the bottom.
B&B Boxed Canyon Series:
If you only have a little time, or if you really do not want to get
out and go, this is the series for you! This is a FANTASTIC boxed
canyon that Bob found. This is an easy walk with a few boulders to
navigate, but a special area that is sure to please all those that
visit. Notice the rock wedged at the top of the dry falls at the
end of the canyon, it is a doozey!
Shotgun & Peashooter’s People Are Pigs
Series:
The first in what will be an evolving series around Central Oregon.
We have been thinking about this for a long time, and this was a
perfect excuse to get the series started. Look for more of these in
the future, or if you have any places to suggest, please let us
know. You will get the idea when you visit this one! One of the
best places in the canyon? We will let you be the judge!
That’s it for now folks. As of Friday 4-2-10 the weather
looks like it is going to change starting mid week or so. Looks
like sun and fun in the forecast. If you have any questions please
let us know!
