Geocache Description:

At 11 acres, China Lake is one of the larger lakes in Tacoma. Considered a natural treasure in an urbanized area with scattered stands of trees, it is currently undeveloped. While battling traffic down busy South 19th Street near Fircrest, it is not surprising that most people don’t even notice the small gravel parking lot of the China Lake Nature Area. If you venture a little further in, you will discover one of the more surprising nature areas in Tacoma.

China Lake is the center of one of Tacomas more intriguing historical myths and Urban Legends. According to legend, when the Chinese population was forcibly expelled from the city in 1885, the Chinese used the caves within the nature area to hide from persecution.
