=======================================================

This cache is named after one of my favorite bluegrass/jamgrass bands. www.railroadearth.com

It is also named for where it's hidden. The cache is located near the “intersection” of the Rock Creek Trail and the Georgetown Branch Trail (aka Capital Crescent Trail). The Georgetown Branch of the B&O Railroad used to cross the stream here on the Rock Creek Trestle, which is a major historic landmark in the park and one of the County’s hidden gems.

The trestle was built in 1892 for the railroad and was re-constructed in 2003 to carry the Georgetown Branch Trail over Rock Creek. The railroad ceased operations in 1988, and Montgomery County purchased the right-of-way – including the trestle -- in 1989 to preserve the corridor for future transportation use (both trail and transit). The Purple Line is currently proposed to be built in this corridor, and the historic trestle will be reconstructed again. Both the Rock Creek Trail and the Georgetown Branch Trail will be preserved under the project’s current design and alignment, although the stream valley and views will be vastly transformed when the project is constructed (not yet scheduled, but likely by 2015)

Access to the cache is via the Rock Creek Trail. The nearest parking lot is at the Ohr Kodesh Congregation off Freyman Drive, near East West Highway (MD 410) and Meadowbrook Lane. Part of this parking lot is reserved for park users. The Rock Creek Trail passes adjacent to the parking lot.

The cache is a clear, small/medium size Tupperware container with small items to take and share.
