My first cache in one of the areas best country parks. The park is 200 acres in size and provides facilities such as picnic areas, 3 childrens play areas, nature walks, bird watching, cafe, toilets, fishing and sailing. There is plenty of parking in the park, although a small entrance fee of around £3.00 per vehicle applies. Other free parking is available in the nearby town of Olney, in the Market Square. Emberton Park Sailing Club moved from nearby Woburn to Emberton Country Park in 1965 after experiencing numerous problems with the height of trees and extensive weed on the lake. Emberton in comparison was "tree free"! They changed their name from "North Bucks and South Beds Sailing Club" to Emberton Park Sailing Club in 1966. The club operated out of a "green wooden caravan" parked on the north side of the spit. This served as the changing rooms for a number of years. The original lake was infact two lakes, split by what is known today as the "island". Hence, members could either sail on the North lake or the South Lake. In the late 1960's the decision was taken to excavate the strip of land separating these two lakes, creating one large lake (Heron Water). The club moved from their "caravan" to the current clubhouse in 1971. The club has an active sailing calendar with races every Sunday throughout the year starting at 11:00am, and every Wednesday evening (April to September) starting at 7:00pm. The cache is a magnetic micro placed in a position overlooking Heron Water. It only contains a log book, so please take along a pen. Congratulations FTF to Dragontree
