Geocache Description:

Cache placed along the beautiful Pochini's trail that is next to Hensley Lake.

The **Pohonichi Trail** at Hensley Lake is named in honor of the **Pohonichi**, a band of the **Southern Sierra Miwok** who once inhabited the region. These indigenous people lived as hunter-gatherers, relying on acorns, native plants, and wildlife while using well-worn paths for travel and trade—paths that may have inspired modern trails like this one. In **1851**, the Pohonichi signed **Treaty N** with the U.S. government, which promised them land, but the treaty was never ratified, leading to their displacement. The construction of **Hidden Dam in 1974** reshaped their homeland, creating Hensley Lake for flood control and recreation. Today, the **Pohonichi Trail serves as a tribute to their enduring legacy**, allowing visitors to walk the same foothills their ancestors once called home, reflecting on the deep history and resilience of the region’s first inhabitants. We placed this cache in a 7.62mm ammo box. Contains logbook. BYOP as i'm not sure if i left one or not. Feel free to leave a pen or pencil if you have an extra. This cache is quite a hike to get to.
