Geocache Description:

A nice easy cache along the river Lune. This area is a favorite of Team GrassmonkeY to get out on our bikes. Recomended parking at N 54* 2.928, W 2* 49.646. It would be perfect cache for a family bike ride but is just as enjoyable walking. Well Done nesrelleg for getting the FTF!

Photobucket Marsh point marks the old boundary between Lancaster and Aldcliffe (which was an independent township until 1935). It was also a ferry point to get across to the Golden Ball, but the last ferryman died about 50 years ago and had no successor. With the route to the pub cut off birdwatching has now become the main attraction. There has been some recent development for flood alleviation i.e. you'll notice this looks quite different now than in Google Earth's sat images from 2002, But there are also some traces of the past to discover, for example an old bench halfway down the lane.
