One of 10 caches realeased at the February Farewell Fling" event.
It is a small vitamin pot close to where some fungi existed in February 2010.
A camouflaged SD memory card holder was originally placed near a horizontal trunk covered in Auricularia auricula-judae, also known as the Jew's Ear or as Judas's ear fungus. It is a jelly-like Basidiomycete fungus so called because it is often shaped like a floppy human ear and it is said that Judas hanged himself on an elder tree, after betraying Jesus Christ. As a result, the Elder tree became known as the Judas tree and the fungus became known as Judas's Ear. Over time, the name gradually changed to the similar-sounding Jew's Ear.
Apparently it is a tasty fungus and is popular in Japanese and Chinese food; in fact there are several recipes on the internet. It also has an amazing power of resurrection in that it can be dried to a hard shrivelled un-ear-like object and then rehydrates back into it's ear shape when put in a container of water.
Because of the size of the cache, you will need your own writing implement.
APRIL 2010 Unfortunately the stump and fungus has disappeared but the cache is still therein a slightly different hide. I've now uploaded a picture if you want to see what the fungus looked like.
