Geocache Description:

Micro (camo'd film can) hidden off Route 66 (Hwy 333 here). Note that there is some low-lying cactus not too far from the new cache location.

Tijeras: Spanish for “scissors”, two canyons come together here, like scissor blades, though some locals say the scissor blades were roads not canyons. The site was originally inhabited by pueblo Indians living in Tijeras Pueblo, whose ruins can be seen behind the USFS station at the south end of Tijeras [off south Hwy 14]. Hispanic settlement did not occur until the 19th century. The post office was established in 1888, but changed its name to Cedar Crest in 1925. The post office established in Zamora (named after the postmaster) in 1938 changed its name to Tijeras in 1947 and it continues to this day.
