Geocache Description:

This cache is best done between 2pm and 6pm on a Sunday afternoon when Jugger is being played. Jugger is a form of Medieval touch-football with weapons and you can find the juggers down here at new farm park every sunday, regardless of weather. You are most welcome to watch or even play and kids are welcome too.

The australian Jugger website is http://jugger.org.au/news.html and is also on Facebook under Jugger Australis

Legal Strike Zone

Jugger is a Post apocalyptic sport based on the 1989 movie Salute to the Jugger: The Blood of Heroes" starring Rutger Hauer and Joan Chen. Juggers are the professional athletes of the desolate Mad Maxesque future world.

Jugger is played with two teams of five Juggers. Three Enforcers with weapons, one Chain and one Qwik.
The objective is for the teams qwik to get the foam dog skull, or jug, on the opposing teams stake. The enforcers job is to defend their qwik from the opposing players.
The qwik is unarmed and the only player who can carry the skull. The enforcers wield various padded weapons such as Staffs, Stabs, Short swords, Sword and shield, Spear and Longsword. The position of Chain wields a ball and chain of plastic and foam.

The games last 100 stones, thrown against a gong, and when a player is hit by the other team they take a knee and are inactive for the count of three stones. If hit with the ball of the chain they take a knee for a count of five stones. (Heat hits incur a penalty on the hitter of five stones for safety). Strike locations are from the neck down, knees up and elbows up. All strikes in jugger are touch, so there is no need to hit heavily or try to cause injury.

Jugger is a fast paced and fun sport for all ages, many girls and parents play and childrens games (without chains) for enthusiastic anklebiters are held in between team games. New players are always welcome and weapons are very well padded so injuries are rare.

Jugger has been played in Australia since 2001 and in Germany for even longer, currently Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney have Jugger leagues. In 2007 the first international jugger tournament was held in Berlin and in 2008 Australia sent two teams and many supporters to play. This September 2010 the australian juggers intend to return to Germany to face off against the Germans, the Irish, Spanish, Americans and Dutch.
