Geocache Description:

This is a different sort of cache -- it's in the form of a pictorial scavenger hunt that will eventually provide a set of coordinates to the final. All twelve of the objects pictured below can be found in and around the PA State Capitol Complex. (For those unfamiliar with the area, the capitol complex is the area surrounded by North 3rd, Forster, North 7th, and Walnut Streets. You don't need to leave the capitol complex to locate the pictured objects.)

To complete this cache, find the objects in the pictures below and obtain the numbers as instructed. Add all six latitude clue numbers together, and all six longitude clue numbers together to get two four-digit numbers. Then, add 7976 to the latitude total and 44375 to the longitude total and plug the results into these coordinates: N40 xx.xxx W76 yy.yyy

All of the pictured objects are open to the general public and can be observed without walking on private property. You do not need to enter any buildings or structures for any part of this hunt. No physical containers have been hidden in the Capitol complex as they are not permitted there. (Although not required to complete this cache, I do suggest you visit the inside of the Capitol if you've not been there before -- the rotunda is a neat thing to see!)

Please note that the magnetically attached final container is NOT located on a mailbox, a dumpster, or a trash can. You can drive to within 5 feet of the cache but you cannot reach the cache from your car. Some stealth may be needed -- I suggest you "tie your shoe" to make the grab.

The goal of this cache is to encourage you to explore our State Capitol. There's a lot of history in Harrisburg. I apologize in advance for the lame final cache location, but in this case it's about the journey, not the destination. In order to help out-of-town visitors, I've included reference points to a few of the more popular buildings in the capitol complex. You might want to visit them while you're here.

NOTE: Street parking in downtown Harrisburg is only free on Sundays! Be sure to check the parking enforcement hours for the day you'll be in town so you don't wind up with a ticket. Parking IS aggressively enforced here!
