Geocache Description:

First State Challenge 2010- Rehoboth Beach - hidden by rehobch

The Delaware Challenge is back: First State Challenge 2010 sponsored by Delaware Geocachers! There are 24 new caches spread across the state of Delaware by volunteer cachers to give you an appreciation for the great areas of the First State. We are spotlighting New Castle County this year. These should all be fairly easy to find as they are either small or regular size with a maximum rating of 2/2. To complete this challenge and be eligible for a Pathtag & certificate at the challenge event, you must complete the following:

1. You must find and log ALL 24 caches- both at the cache location and online. Record the code phrase written in the log book of each hide and email your completed list of all 23 code phrases to FirstStateChallenge@gmail.com.
2. For your convenience, there is a form on the Delaware Geocaching Website at First State Challenge 2010 - Form although the use of this form is not required.
3. There will be a Challenge Event (more details later) open to all cachers. At this event, those that have been verified as completing the challenge, will be eligible for the following:
       Completion certificate
       Challenge Pathtag (limited)
4. Pathtags are limited to the first 100 cachers who complete the challenge.
5. More information can be found on the Delaware Geocachers Forum at First State Challenge 2010

Rehoboth Beach

Location

The city was founded in 1873 as the Rehoboth Beach Camp Meeting Association by the Rev. Robert W. Todd, of St. Paul's Methodist Episcopal Church of Wilmington, Delaware, as a site for Methodist camp meetings in the spirit of similar resorts on the New Jersey shore, such as Ocean Grove. The Camp Meeting Association disbanded in 1881, and in 1891, the location was incorporated by the Delaware General Assembly as "Henlopen City", shortly after which it was renamed to Rehoboth Beach.

The town often bills itself as "The Nation's Summer Capital" due to the fact that it is a frequent summer vacation destination for Washington, D.C., residents as well as visitors from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and many of the Northeast states. Vacationers are drawn for many reasons, including the town's charm, artistic appeal, and nightlife.

The Gordons Pond area of Cape Henlopen State Park weaves around a mile-long tidal pond and ends at the ocean, offering arm’s-length views of more than a dozen species of shorebirds. Crouching near the great tidal pool known as Gordons Pond, you can watch from behind the rushes as a great blue heron prepares to strike a fish at its feet.

Cache Details

The cache is a small Lock&Lock placed in Cape Henlopen State Park- Gordons Pond area with the approval of park management. It is very close to the road and access to this cache is through Rehoboth Beach NOT Lewes.

During summer months, tick repellent & bug spray are needed.

The cache is located in the park itself but just outside of the gate area so no fee is required to find it. The park is open daily from 8 am to sunset.
