Geocache Description:

Welcome to our 8th cache, which provides a companion piece to another of ours with a similar name some 300+ metres north-east as the crow flies.

The Bridge

The above coordinates will take you to this 32m long bridge completed in April 2007 and officially opened later that year. It closed a gap in the Plenty River Trail, south of Lower Plenty Road, providing an important link between Greensborough and the Main Yarra Trail thereby allowing recreational and commuter riders access to the rest of the Metropolitan Trail Network. Construction of the bridge was a joint project between Banyule City Council and Parks Victoria with both parties contributing half the overall cost.

Plaque

Besides the bridge, Banyule City Council also funded and constructed half a kilometre of shared concrete path. The path is 2½ m wide and runs along the bank of the Plenty River on land that the Council purchased from the Heidelberg Golf Club. The bridge connects the new section of path to the existing Parks Victoria owned trail near Martins Lane. Cyclists can now remain on bike paths from Greensborough through to where the Plenty River Trail intersects with the Main Yarra Trail a short way west of the confluence of the Plenty and Yarra Rivers (and Alansee's Plenty of Trolls).

If you approach the cache from the north, you will pass the 4th teeing ground and the 3rd green of the Heidelberg Golf Club. The course is an 18 hole, par 72 (Mens: 6157 metres, Ladies: 5360 metres) private course and once boasted the longest hole in Australian golf – the 565 metre, par 5, 14th.

And so to the cache. The cache is a 200 mm Sistema container. It contains a log book, pencil, a few small swaps and a small FTF prize for the lucky person (no trade is necessary for the FTF prize).

There is parking at the end of Old Lower Plenty Road or on Martins Lane where the bike path crosses. Either spot will require a short walk to get to GZ.

The cache itself should be reasonably easy to find but muggles might approach from either direction at varying speeds and you might look a little out of place at GZ. Golfers near the 3rd green shouldn't be a problem, although they might be able to see you through the fence.

Please return the cache to the correct spot (otherwise the hint will be redundant). You should be able to push it right in as the bolts will prevent it from going too far. Many thanks.

As with all our caches, no-one knows that this is coming on line so the FTF will be won fair and square. Good luck!

FTF honours go to:

Congratulations!!

We hope you enjoy the cache and your visit to the newest bridge across the Plenty River.

(A special thanks to Alsume for the container. It's finally out there Smiley.)
