It was around 5pm and some local kids were down in the reserve, at
the back of their houses late one afternoon, the sun was starting
to set, it was that magic time of the day up in the mountains where
the heat is gone, the air is still and clear and the sky is
starting to change colours. They were at their usual secret
hideout, a place they could go to get away from their sisters,
parents and anything else that annoyed them.
They had climbed down the cliff face a bit further than usual and
were sitting in a small overhang that overlooked the small valley
that was spread out before them. Across the other side of the
valley, they could see other houses, but, apart from that, they
could have been a million miles from civilisation! They had brought
some supplies from their home, some bottles of water and some other
snacks, they were relaxing, chatting and generally chilling
out.
The stillness was broken by a low hum that started really low and
off in the distance, it could have been a truck way over on the
highway, so the boys paid it no attention. The hum steadily got
louder and louder, the birds were not enjoying the sound and were
leaving the area with a squawk. The boys stepped out of the
overhang to try and discover the source of this noise, it sounded
like it was coming from above and behind them. The trees were
starting to whip around, thrashing in some strange wind that seemed
to go up and down in strength in tune with the humming.
The older of the 2 boys, Jason, decided he was going to try and
climb back up to see if he could discover the source of the noise
and the strange wind. he told his brother Martin to stay in the
overhang, and that he would call out if he found anything worth
looking at. Jason left the overhang and worked his way to the left
and upwards, the same way they had came down.
A few minutes after he had left the overhang, Martin thought he
heard his brother yelling something out to him, but he could not
make it out, then, he was sure he heard a scream, there was a great
flash of light like a high powered camera flash going off that
blinded Martin for a few seconds. Disorientated, he sat down while
his vision returned, the one thing he did notice, was that the
noise was gone, and it was dead calm. There was something else,
when his vision returned, he was no longer in the overhang!
He was in a small clearing, there was a fire trail coming in from
one side and it was much darker than he remembered, as he turned
around to try and figure out where he was, there, on the ground,
was his brother Jason, curled up in a ball, but not moving. As he
moved towards his brother, the hum returned behind him, he quickly
turned but all he saw was a series of intertwining lights, dancing
and rotating around themselves as it sped straight up into the
sky.
He quickly got to his brothers side and rolled him over, he had a
strange burn mark on the side of his face, where had that come
from? He checked his watch, it was now 8:15pm, where had the last 3
hours gone? More importantly, where the hell were they, and how
were they to get home. He quickly searched Jasons pockets, looking
for his mobile phone, just as he started to punch in their home
phone number, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up and his
skin had gone all goosebumpy. He had a strong feeling he was being
watched, but by who, or what....
Cache info: There is a small scrub bash to get to this one,
we did find a faint footpad down to this area, there are cliff
lines all along here, the views are nice. The area is ok for
closely supervised kids, but I will leave that up to your
judgement. The cache is not in a real dangerous spot and should
actually be pretty easy to find.
Inside this cache you may find a clue left behind by our missing
scientist, you will know a clue if you see one, they stay in the
cache!! Please do not drop it and loose it. Make sure you record
any clues very carefully that you may find. Use the sheet provided
on the main cache page or take a photo of each clue you find.
As with all these caches - come prepared for anything and
everything!
Inside the lid, is an alien language, you better write that down as
well as it just may come in handy at some point when trying to
figure out what has happened to our missing scientist and
discovering the location of the Alien Commander.
Bring a camera, enjoy the views, best not at night or in the rain,
be careful!!
REMEMBER - You can do these caches in any order you want, there
is no right or wrong sequence to doing them!
