David and Phillip were best mates, had been since primary school,
they did everything together, if they were not getting into trouble
with either the local girls or the local police, they would be
found down the river swimming or fishing.
This day was like no other, they had already driven down to the
river in Phillips raised V8 4WD early and had been swimming and
fishing, the day was wearing on and they had to make the trek back
up through the bush to where they parked the car on a little known
fire trail. They still had a couple of beers left over so they
stopped off at a cool overhang and sat down to lighten their load
somewhat.
They were discussing their plans for that Saturday night, where
they were going, who they were going to try and hook up with etc.
The temperature was still rather warm, even in the shade of the
overhang and outside they could see a heat haze in the air, cicadas
were screaming everywhere making quite a rukkas.
David went outside for a leak, he had not been gone for very long
when there was the sound of trees snapping and the sound of metal
scraping and tearing on jagged rocks, a huge explosion and the area
was rained dirt and rocks. David came running back into the
overhang yelling "What the hell was that??"
The rain of earth and rock soon stopped and all that was left was a
low pulsing hum that seemed to be diminishing as time ticked bye.
"We gotta check this out!" said Dave, "Hell yeah!" said Phil. They
dropped all their gear in the overhang and went out in search of
the source of the explosion. That was pretty easy, not far from
where they were, was a huge metal object, it sure did not look like
any sort of aircraft either had seen before, there were small spot
fires all around the hull.
It was cigar shaped, though, the end that had impacted with the
ground was now quite distorted and was in places torn open from
impacting with the rocks nearby. Cautiously, they skirted around
some rocks to get a better look, it was huge!! But what was it?
There were no visible windows, and it was a grey in colour. Near
one side, there was a huge gash up one side and they could see into
the "thing". "Screw this! I'm going back to get a torch, I'm going
in for a look!" said Phil.
Dave was not quite so sure, but Phil had already been back to the
overhang and grabbed a torch from their gear bag and was poking his
head into the gash. "Damn, this thing is hot!" said Phil when he
touched the object. "You coming in?" he asked Dave? "Not a chance!"
said Dave. "I'm going to check out the rest of this thing from out
here." he told Phil, but Phil was already out of sight...
Dave spent some time working his way around the whole thing, it was
pretty badly smashed up from the impact, and on one side, there
looked like some sort of hatch that had some green ooze looking
substance running down the hull, and there was also some of the
same weird stuff splattered here and there on rocks and leaves. He
called out to Phil to come and look, but there was no answer, so
Dave retraced his steps back around to the gash and again called
out to Phil. Still no answer. "Crap! This aint good" he thought to
himself, I need to phone a mate and get some help down here.
Dave raced back to the overhang to get his phone, he did not notice
the same green ooze on the floor of the overhang, he grabbed the
phone and went to the entrance of the overhang to try and get a
better signal as reception was pretty lame down here. He was trying
to dial for the 2nd time when the hairs rose up on the back of his
neck and it got decidedly colder, "huh!" he exclaimed out loud. He
spun around at the sound of something behind him, he dropped the
phone and screamed and the last thing he saw was those large cold
black eyes, staring at him....
Cache info: This is pretty easy to get to and a pretty cool
spot, kid friendly somewhat, my youngest daughter was here at GZ
with me when I placed it, just take some care in how you get to GZ.
There are fire trails that get you most of the way there, the rest
is an easy walk in open bushland till you need to do an easy
scramble. The rest is up to you.
Inside this cache you may find a clue left behind by our missing
scientist, you will know a clue if you see one, they stay in the
cache!! Please do not drop it and loose it. Make sure you record
any clues very carefully that you may find. Use the sheet provided
on the main cache page or take a photo of each clue you find.
As with all these caches - come prepared for anything and
everything!
Inside the lid, is an alien language, you better write that down as
well as it just may come in handy at some point when trying to
figure out what has happened to our missing scientist and
discovering the location of the Alien Commander.
REMEMBER - You can do these caches in any order you want, there
is no right or wrong sequence to doing them!
