Dave was into photography, he had one passion in life, fungai,
mushrooms and other spores, after rain you could find him out
stomping around the wet bush in hope he would find some rare and
elusive fungai that he had never seen before, most people thought
he was a bit of a nut!
In his pursuit of his consuming passion for mushies and other
strange things, he travelled around to a lot of remote locations,
not just in the mountains, but sometimes his hobby took him all
around Australia and even overseas from time to time. If there was
a chance he would find something new and rare, he was there like a
shot!
He was out on one such photographic expedition and was driving
around a quiet suburban street, it was late in the afternoon, the
sun was starting to go down but it had been a fruitful day, he had
managed to capture images of a couple of rare fungai today so he
was pretty excited. As he was driving along the street, something
zoomed overhead crashed into the trees on the side of the road,
impacted with the ground and was seen to take to the sky again and
continued towards the west, smoke billowing from the weird shaped
object.
Now, you would think, being a photographer, he may have gotten some
images of this thing, but no, he was setup for macro only and his
camera was useless. He pulled over near where he thought he saw the
object impact with the ground and cautiously got out and wandered
down a short distance from the road. There was a large impact
crater in the ground, many feet deep!!
He scrambled down the short distance and noticed twisted fragments
of what looked like a strange grey metal. He looked at the crater
again, and thought to himself "Oh my lord!" right in the middle of
the crater, strange multi coloured mushroom looking growths were
starting to poke up from the disturbed earth, there was more and
more of them poking their heads through the dirt all the time. He
raced back to the car to grab his camera, he just had to get
pictures of this!!
He reached his car and went to open the back door to get his camera
equipment, it was locked, of course, he always locked his car as
soon as he got out, but, this time, in his excitement, he had
locked it with the keys in the car, they were still in the
ignition!
He raced back down towards the impact crater and to his dismay, the
mushroom growths were already wilting and seemed to be dieing off.
"No! This can't be happening!!" he screamed. It was then, that he
noticed a strange mist that was low to the ground and was curling
around everything close to the ground, he stood transfixed watching
as it slowly spread out from the now dieing fungai. As he was
standing there, perched on the edge of the crater, part of the lip
gave way and he slid onto his butt partway down the lip of the
crater.
It was then, the strangest thing happened, at the sound of him
slipping, the mist stopped moving in all directions, and seemed to
now be moving towards to source of the disturbance, which was him!
The mist was moving faster now over the uneven ground, that was
enough for Dave, he picked himself up and raced up and over the lip
of the crater and back up the slope to his car, pausing long enough
to grab a rock to smash his window.
The window smashed, he flung the door open, turned the key and
floored the go pedal to the floor! When he was a short distance up
the road, he looked in the rear view mirror and thought he saw a
small grey child with a large head standing in the mist, he blinked
and looked again and it was gone!
Cache info: Does not matter how you do this one, you will
probably get dirty, and yes, it IS meant to be all the way in and
around to the left, don't go putting it at the front, that takes
the challenge away from the next person who wants to do it.
Continue to make it a challenge and place it all the way back and
in and around to the left. kids can with a bit of supervision get
to above GZ, my youngest did and was happy to sit on a rock while I
placed the cache, even while it rained.
Inside this cache you may find a clue left behind by our missing
scientist, you will know a clue if you see one, they stay in the
cache!! Please do not drop it and loose it. Make sure you record
any clues very carefully that you may find. Use the sheet provided
on the main cache page or take a photo of each clue you find.
As with all these caches - come prepared for anything and
everything!
Inside the lid, is an alien language, you better write that down as
well as it just may come in handy at some point when trying to
figure out what has happened to our missing scientist and
discovering the location of the Alien Commander.
REMEMBER - You can do these caches in any order you want, there
is no right or wrong sequence to doing them!
