Alan and Helen Berg, both having the distinction of serving as mayor of the city of Corvallis, donated a 5.75-acre parcel of land to the Audubon Society of Corvallis in 1993. Lying just west of town, the property was used as a horse pasture until 1997, at which time steps were taken to remove fencing and to clean up the barn. The barn has been renovated into Hesthavn Nature Center, which functions as a museum for wildlife specimens, educational facility and meeting place.
Come walk the nature trails of Hesthavn, ‘horse heaven’, where over 75 species of birds have been spotted. What bird can you add to the list? Check the bulletin board when you visit for the latest happenings. Oh, don’t forget your binoculars.
