CITO Event

Saturday, April 24, 2010
9:30 a.m.

Event information has been updated.  Mattole Road will be closed starting at 9:00 a.m. from Hwy 101 to Albee Creek Campground. Please read this updated cache page carefully for new registration site and road details.  The new meeting area is located at Cuneo Horse Camp:  N 40° 20.097 W 124° 2.097

Come join the Lost Coast Cachers for their first CITO event in cooperation with Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The goal is to clean up along Mattole Road from Cuneo Horse Camp to Albee Creek Campground (and beyond).

We will meet at the Cuneo Horse Camp at 9:30 a.m. for registration and instructions. (N 40° 20.097 W 124° 2.097) Cuneo Horse Camp is about a 20-30 minute drive from Hwy 101. The portion of road in the old growth section is in poor shape, so drive slowly and use caution. Because of the scheduled road closure, plan to be on Mattole Road prior to 9:00 a.mSafety vests, garbage bags, and "litter-getters" will be provided at check-in.Teams (see below) will be proceed to various sections of Mattole Road.

Cuneo Horse Camp is located on the west side of the road closure. Limited controlled traffic through the closed area is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.  The road is scheduled to reopen at 4:00 p.m.  The road west from Cuneo to Ferndale will remain open (but it's a long, long trip to civilization).  If you do not expect to stay the entire day, please plan to exit the park via Hwy 101 at 11:00 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.  For those that plan to remain, there will be new geocaches to keep you busy!

Remember: SAFETY FIRST!  Two miles of the cleanup area will be open to traffic, so always be aware of motorists on the road. Be advised that there is poison oak everywhere!

We will return to the registration area to drop off the garbage bags, take a group photo, and have a drawing for Cachekinz Travel Tags, LCCF geocoins, and a CITO geocoin.  Bring a lunch and enjoy the afternoon.

Join a team: When you post your "will attend" log please designate which team you want to join: Garmin, Magellan, DeLorme, or Undeclared.  Your "will attend" log will enter you into the raffle. (Must be present to win.)

And don't forget to bring your GPSr.
