Geocache Description:

In the Tri-state area, both Maryland and West Virginia have their high point caches. Here is Pennsylvania's summit - Mt. Davis, elevation 3213 feet.

Mt. Davis is part of the 30-mile long Negro Mountain and is the highest point in PA and the lowest high point in the Appalachian chain. The stash is located in the Mt. Davis Natural Area.

Driving Direction
Take US 219 (either from I-76, US 40 or I-68) to Salisbury, PA.
US-219 becomes Grant Street.
Turn right (if from I-76) or left (if from US 40 and I-68) onto Ord Street 0.7 mile
Turn left onto S-669 2 miles
Turn right onto SR2001 1.4 mile
Turn left onto S Wolf Rock Road 5 miles
Follow the sign to the PA High Point and its parking lot

An easier and longer route is to get Meyersdale via US-219, then follow the local sign and stay on Mt. Davis Rd until you see the sign to S Wolf Rock Road.

Attractions
The High Point is about 500 feet from the parking lot. There is a small geology exhibits at the actual high point. An observation tower is nearby. Other attractions include:

Shelter Rock (??? see my 11/11/01 note)
High point outlook (N39 46.925', W79 10.854')
Baughman Rock and Spring (N39 47.598', W79 10.250')
A picnic area at nearby Mt. Davis Road.

The cache
The container is a clear plastic bottle and has a size of around one gallon. Locate the Shelter Rock trail head (N39 47.120', W79 10.594'), then follow your GPS to the cache. The trail is blazed RED. Stay on the trail until you are within 150 feet to the cache. This is very important, you will know why when you begin the search. The initial contents include a key-chain databank, a microphone-earphone combo for computer, a few original software CD-ROMs. Also, there's some band-aid and alcohol swabs just in case for minor injury.

Note: In July, 08, I moved out of the area and did not have a chance to have a final visit. I thought that it would be better to keep this geocaching site. Therefore, I will let this entry active. Please keep the cache exactly the same as you find it. Happy geocaching.
