Back in the early days, settlers first came to this area by sea; there were no roads of course and the land was virtually impassable. These early settlers came down the coast by ship, looking for a new place to live. During their voyage, they had to find food and water wherever they could. Food was easy to find, since the ocean was full of fish and there were animals to hunt on shore; but getting fresh water was a problem.
Everyday, they had to go ashore to find enough fresh drinking water. On good days they found fresh water springs or streams near the shore; but some days they was no nearby supply so they had to travel further inland.
One of the young women was the best at finding fresh water; she never came back without bringing a full jug. Sometimes she was gone for many hours, but she was always successful. She knew how important it was for everyone else.
But because she took such pride in her task, she sometimes took risks. One day her drive to find water caught up with her and she didn't return. The others searched for her for many days, but they couldn't find her. She had disappeared into the wilderness. She became the legendary Lost Lady of Seabranch.
Recent archeological studies have pinpointed the area in which she disappeared. It is in a thick stand of Florida coastal vegetation, indicated by the posted coordinates.
If you dare to search for the Lost Lady, be prepared for nasty vegetation, wild animals, wet feet. Sandals and shorts are defintely not recommended!! This is a 3-stage multi with serious bushwacking required at all 3 stages. "Be afraid, be very afraid!" Bring water and be prepared for a tough search.
