Das Lausitzer Gebirge ist ein Teil der Sudeten und besteht hauptsächlich aus Sandstein, ruhend auf einem präkambrischen Granitsockel. Vulkanische Magmen durchbrachen im Tertiär diese Sandsteinplatte und erstarrten zu Basalt und Phonolith (Klingstein). Im Kontaktbereich dieser Magmen zum Sandstein wurde dieser zum Teil verglast, zusammengebacken oder zu kleinen Säulchen zersplittert. Am nördlichen Rand des Lausitzer Gebirges verläuft als bedeutendste geologische Störungszone die Lausitzer Verwerfung, die den Granodiorit der Lausitz vom Sandstein Böhmens trennt.
Der deutsche Anteil des Lausitzer Gebirges südlich von Zittau wird Zittauer Gebirge genannt. Das Gebiet steht in Tschechien als ChKO Lužické hory unter Naturschutz. Das Zittauer Gebirge besitzt den Status eines Landschaftsschutzgebietes und wurde im Jahr 2007 als Naturpark ausgewiesen. Der Naturpark Zittauer Gebirge ist damit der 100. Naturpark in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
Zwischen Hochwald und Felsengasse, oberhalb Oybins, gibt es ein Naturdenkmal zu sehen,
dessen Name eher an das Meer erinnert, aber damit keineswegs etwas zu tun hat.
Der "Muschelsaal" - enstanden durch vulkanische oder postvulkanische Vorgänge.
Eure Aufgabe besteht darin, ein Foto von Euch mit GPS und dem Muschelsaal im Hintergrund zu machen

und auf folgende Fragen per e-mail zu antworten:
- Was führte zum Namen "Muschelsaal"?
- Aus welchen Gesteinen setzt er sich zusammen?

The Lusatian Mountains are part of the Sudets and consits mostly of sandstone sitting on a Precambrian base of granite.
In Tertiary volcanic magmas broke through this board of sandstone and solidified to basalt and phonolite (soundstone).
The contact area of this magmas and the sandstone partly got glazed, stuck together or got splintered to little pillars.
At the northern edge of the Lusatian Mountains goes along the most important geological fractured zone - the Lusatia Fault,
which separates the granodorite of Lausitz from the Bohemian sandstone.
The German part of the Lusatian Mountains is called Zittau Hills and lies south of Zittau.
In Bohemia this area is called ChKO Luzickè hory and is proclaimed as an areaof protectionof nature.
The Zittau Hills own the status as a nature preserve and were identified as a wildlife park in 2007.
The wildlife park Zittau Hills is the 100th wildlife park of Germany.
Between Hochwald and Felsengasse, you can find a natural monument.
When you hear its name, you will think the sea is not far away ;)
