Once the Bulgarian people were forced to split up into two parts - The Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia, after the unjust Treaty of Berlin of 13 July 1878. The Principality of Bulgaria remained independent, while the lands between the Balkans and Rhodope Mountains, named Eastern Rumeliya, remained under the direct authority of the military and the Turkish sultan. This crime against the Bulgarian people would not last long time. The success of the Bulgarian insurgents were to come soon - on September 4, 1885, under the leadership of Chardafon Tishkova - selling and revolutionary - war, several hundred armed men from Goliamo Konare moveed at night in Plovdiv and took the power, removing the government and governor-general Gabriel Krastevich. The unsatisfied Serbia with the help of Austro-Hungary, attacked Bulgaria, but after three-day battle near Slivnitsa ended in victory for the Bulgarian people, signed a new contract is recognition of the unity of the country. So on September 22nd, 1908 a manifesto was proclaimed the independence of Bulgaria. Now when you look at the statue of the Unity in Plovdiv, you will know, that in the veins of Bulgarians runs the blood of the proud and independent people who have fought to the end for their independence, because for them the word FREEDOM was sacred.
