TITO
Josip Broz „Tito“ (1892 – 1980) was the towering father-figure of the Second Yugoslavia (1943 – 1992). He led the anti-fascist Yugoslav Partisans during World War II and went on to lead the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, eventually as president-for-life, until his death in 1980. Although the federation was initially part of the Soviet-dominated pan-Communist COMINFORM, Tito broke with Stalin in 1948. He vigorously promoted a Yugoslav nationality (“Brotherhood and Unity” – “bratstvo i jedinstvo”) to subsume the diverse national groupings within the federation and his regime was seen on the international stage as the most open and liberal of the Eastern Bloc. Unter Tito’s leadership, Yugoslavia secured a strong diplomatic position as a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Not far away from the Cache-location there is the Tito memorial museum and the “House of Flowers” (“Kuca cveca”) which is the mausoleum of the leader. For almost a decade after the breakup of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia the entire complex (the tomb and the memorial museum), were closed to the public and the military guards were permanently removed. The name "House of Flowers" comes from the fact that many flowers surrounded the tomb until it was closed to the public, but today there are only white marble plates where the flowers used to be.
The Cache is NOT inside of the tomb/museum area, but it’s worth going in anyway ;-) Ticket price: 200 Dinar (this is about 2 €)
