The Cache is a small plastic container. It contains a logbook, pencils, FTF pin and some trading pieces.
I 1906 hadde Tinfos kjøpt halve Sagafossen. Spørsmålet var korleis ein skulle utnytte ein halv foss som låg rett ovanfor Tinnefossen som alt var utbygd. Løysinga var å grave ein kanal og føre vatnet frå Tinnelva ovanfor Sagafossen, forbi fabrikkområdet og så ned til ein ny kraftstasjon, Tinfos 2. Dette var ei løysing som skapte oppsikt i samtida.
Alt før Tinfos 2 stod ferdig, hadde det blitt sett opp ein bygning på nabotomta som ikkje utmerka seg med spennande arkitektur, men som ikkje var mindre viktig av den grunn. Det var ein ”forsøksstation”, og forsøka galdt smelting av jern ved hjelp av elektrisitet. Ut av den elektriske masomnen rann det i januar 1910 det fyrste elektrisk smelta jernet i Noreg. Dei vidare forsøka var så vellykka at det i 1911 blei etablert eit jernverk som skulle liggje nede ved Heddalsvatnet. Krafta kom frå Tinfos 2.
I kjølvatnet av industrietableringane på Notodden hadde det skjedd ein dramatisk folkeauke. Det var mangel på husrom, og den bedrifta som ville ha ein nokolunde stabil arbeidsstokk, måtte hjelpe til med å skaffe hus til arbeidarane. Tinfos Papirfabrik starta med si husbygging på slutten av 1800-talet. Då kom dei fyrste husa på høgda vest for papirfabrikken. I eitt av desse var det også bruksskule. Frå om lag same tid fekk vi også villaen til styraren av fabrikken på eit platå vest for fossen. På 1900-talet blei husbygginga flytta over til austsida av elva. Her blei det bustader både for arbeidarar, funksjonærar og direktør. Svært synleg er dette skiljet frå Kanalveien og opp til Kanalbyen.
Husene langs kanalen er idag i privat eie, men det betales feste på tomtene til Tinfos. Kanalbyen er et borettslag under Notodden Boligbyggerlag.

In 1906 had Tinfos bought half Saga waterfall. The question was how to take advantage of half a waterfall that was situated just above the Tin waterfall that was already developed. The solution was to dig a canal and cause water from the Tin River above Saga waterfall, past the factory area and then down to a new power station, Tinfos 2 This was a solution that created the stir at the time.
Everything before Tinfos 2 was finished, it had been set up a building on the neighboring site that does not distinguish itself with exciting architecture, but that was not less important for that reason. It was an "experiment station", and attempts came to special smelting of iron using electricity. Out of the electric Mas oven ran it in January 1910 the first electric molten iron in norway. They further efforts were so successful that in 1911 was established an ironworks that would lie down by Heddalsvatn. The electricity came from Tinfos 2
In the wake of industrial establishments in Notodden there had been a dramatic people increase. There was a lack of housing, and the business would have a somewhat less stable workforce, to help provide houses for workers. Tinfos Papirfabrik started with say house-building in the late 1800s. Then came the first buildings on the height west of the paper mill. In one of these was also used school. From about the same time was also the villa of executive of the factory on a plateau west of the falls. In the 1900s was husbygginga moved over to its eastern bank. There were houses for both workers, officers and director. Highly visible, this divide from Kanalveien and up to the Kanalbyen.
The houses along the canal is currently in private ownership, but it paid anchor on the plots to Tinfos. Kanalbyen is a housing cooperative under the Notodden Boligbyggerlag.
